Born on July 7, 1982 in Barranquilla. He began in his childhood with the learning of the classical piano under the tutelage of the Colombian pianist Rosalba Reina de Villalón and of harmony and composition with his father Gunter Renz. At the age of 13 years, he began to intensively deal with Latin American and Caribbean music. Some years later, he won with the work "Fantasía Sobre El Río Sinú" the first prize in the Caribbean 2000 Classic Music Composition Competition.
Christian Renz lives since 2001 in Hamburg, Germany where he studied and graduated with honors in Jazzpiano (Dipl.-Musikl.) and composition (M.Mus.) with the renowned composer and arranger Wolf Kerschek at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater (HfMT) Hamburg. During his studies he was awarded among others, with the Germany scholarship (Deutschlandstipendium)and the Oscar and Vera Ritter Stiftung scholarship.
Since then, he has been working successfully as a pianist, composer, arranger and music teacher. Since 2014 he has also been guest lecturer of jazz theory and composition at the HfMT Hamburg, the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Universidad del Atlántico and the Universidad del Norte in Barranquilla, Colombia.
He recently received the Contemporary Composition Prize from the City of Barranquilla for his work "Nocturno a la Bella" for piano and flute.
His catalog of compositions includes works for piano, solo voice and piano, mixed choir, chamber groups, string orchestra, symphony orchestra, jazz ensembles and salsa combos. His works are influenced by Latin rhythms, texture and harmony of jazz and classical music.
